Intro to Free Motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine for beginners or those that need a refresher on the basics. Includes: setting up the machine, preparing the quilt, the “how-to” of the quilting, lots of designs and practice, how to deal with a large quilt, and how to overcome common problems. Detailed handout. Half day class.
All Over Quilting and Pantographs – LA or D
Finish your quilts quickly but with your own personal flair! Learn how to go beyond a basic meander and select all over designs that complement your quilt top and provide wonderful background texture. Includes selecting and stitching pantographs and how all over designs differ from pantographs. Discussion of thread and batting selection. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class.
Custom Quilting for Everyone – LA or D
Custom quilting follows the piecing, but doesn’t have to be hard or take a long time! Take your quilting up a notch and learn how to select and quickly stitch custom designs for your blocks, sashing and borders that will bring out the beauty of your quilt top. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class.
|Blocks and Fills Exploration – LA or D
Dive into blocks and fills and how to select designs for blocks and efficiently plot a quilting path across your top that minimizes stops and starts. Add lots of block and filler designs to your tool box for both pieced and applique blocks. Learn how to deal with problem blocks. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class
Borders and Sashing Exploration – LA or D
Dive into borders and sashings and how to select designs that coordinate with the rest of the quilt. Learn tricks and tips to minimize border and sashing stops and starts for quick and easy quilting. Add lots of border and sashing designs to your tool box to make your quilts uniquely yours. Learn how to deal with problem borders. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class.
Fantastic Feathers – LA or D
Feathers are your friend! See how versatile (and easy!) feathers can be and how much elegance they can add to your quilt. Expand your tool box with several feather variations and learn to fill any space with lovely flowing feathers. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class.
|Modern and Geometric Quilting – LA or D
Learn to quilt the fresh clean lines of modern quilts! Learn how to deal with large areas of negative space, improvisational piecing and graphic designs with different kinds of lines, geometrics, and fills. You will leave class with lots of ideas and confidence that you can apply to any quilt. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class.
Ruler Mania – LA or D
Learn how rulers can easily give your quilts that crisp, professional finish. We will explore basic to more advanced ruler techniques like stitch-in-the-ditch, cross hatching and templates to really make your quilts sing! Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half Day class
|Specialty Quilts – T-shirt and Art quilts – LA or D
Learn to quilt specialty quilts, such as T-shirt quilts and Art quilts. We will discuss and demonstrate appropriate quilting designs, thread and batting to highlight and enhance their beauty. This is easier than it looks! Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half Day class.
McTavishing Class – LA or D
McTavishing is a lovely technique to fill in around applique or other areas that creates a fluid movement and a interesting texture. Includes: examples of McTavishing; marking the quilt; how to execute the technique; and practice, practice, practice. I am certified by Karen McTavish to teach this class. Lecture/demo class; handout provided. Half day class.

Designed for long-arm users that know how to operate the machine and want to take their quilting to the next level and/or start a business. This comprehensive class includes: Starting a business; Thread, tension and batting; Deciding how to quilt a quilt; Dealing with problem quilts; Different methods for loading quilts; Pantographs; Borders; Stitching a block; Marking quilt designs; Ruler work. Includes a 50 page reference booklet. Free for new APQS brand long-arm owners; charge for other students. All day class.
Private Long-arm Lessons at Your Location
You have a long-arm – let’s learn to use it! I will come to your home and we will use your long-arm. You can invite friends if you would like. I tailor the class to exactly what you need to feel comfortable, whether you’re afraid to turn it on, or you want to take it to the next level. I am factory trained on APQS long-arm machines and can also help get your machine into tip-top shape. Minimum of 2 hours.
